This last Saturday, December 5th, 2009 - I finally became a bat mitzvah. I was up almost all night the night before. I wasn't really nervous or anything - I was just so excited. SO many of my friends and family were going to be there and I wanted to impress them.
We got up pretty early Saturday morning, and by we, I mean me, my husband Greg, and his mom, who had spent the night. We walked down to Svea, the kick ass Swedish diner a block from my house, for some breakfast. Then we went back home, got ready, and my mom and sister *
Snitter drove up to the apartment. I called up *
Dubhghall to see where he was - he was driving in from Detroit, the poor bastard, and he was actually right in front of our car. *dies*
We drove over to my temple and we did a quick run through of the event. I was so proud of my friend Matt - he was doing one of the blessings for me (you say a blessing before you read from the Torah, and for a bar/bat mitzvah, they break it up into as many parts as they can, LOL). My friend Matt is Jewish but has NO connection to it really - so when I asked him to do a blessing for me, he was pretty sure he couldn't do it. Holy fuck, he did it so wonderfully! He'd been practicing like crazy for it

and I was so proud of him!
I was really happy that BOTH my mom and my dad came - there had been some uncertainty beforehand whether or not they were both going to be there, so I'm glad that they were able to both be there.

I had to laugh, too, because when my rabbi asked how many people out there was in a temple for the first time, like, I'd say 2/3 of the people raised their hands!

But everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
I totally nailed by Torah portion, too. There was one point when I forgot the chanting, but my cantor was able to whisper it to me and I went on without a hitch. WOOT! I was even happier when an Israeli friend of mine told me that I should try to tutor kids because my Hebrew was so good! *blushies* I was even happier happier when my dad asked where I learned to chant so well. *faints*
All in all, it was a really good bat mitzvah! As far as bat mitzvahs go.

I had such a blast and I was so happy for all the peeps who were able to go. Now I just have to bug *
Snitter to send me pictures again.
